Regulation of mechanisms in living things to maintain balance is called homeostasis. This process consist of; receptors that senses and respond to stimulus, an effector that brings about the required change using a positive and negative feedback, a control centre that processes information from the receptor and administer the right response in the effector. Basic function of homeostasis is keep an organism in a state of equilibrium and balance.

Positive feedback mechanism enhances stimulus, resulting in more products shifting the state from equilibrium to imbalance. The negative feedback inhibits change and stimulus, shifting the system to balance and stability.
