What factors are required for cloning?

Well in my learning you most commonly need A. DNA genes for cloning. You need this because starting from non life works but you could clone a dog a few weeks before its death or even years in advance. However, in my opinion I think cloning is a very sick and twisted thing! playing God is bad and extremely devilish!
