Nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord, sensory organs (nervous tissues) and the nerves that establish a connection between nervous tissues with all the other body parts. Following is a list of functions of the Nervous System:

    1) Communication between different parts of the brain

    2) Communication between different body organs with the brain

    3) Receiving sensation and response generation

    4) Initiating movement by signaling muscles of the body

    5) Maintaining homeostasis: Maintaining a stable environment within the body e. g temperature, fluids and ions concentration in the blood

    6) Sympathetic and parasympathetic functions

    7) Integration

    8) Controlling all the body functions!

The three main and most important functions of the nervous system are sensation, integration, and response.

    1. Sensation- - Part of the nervous system, sensory receptors give signals when experiencing changes in the environment

    2. Integration- - Once the sensory receptors receive stimuli, they send that information to the nervous system.

    3. Response- - Certain organs respond to each particular type of stimuli.
