    White matter of the spinal cord is a component of the central nervous system that forms a bulk of the deep parts of the brain and the superficial parts of the spinal cord. The white matter is white because it contains a fatty substance (myelin) which surrounds the nerve fibers.

    White matter consist mostly of glial cells and myelinated axons that acts as an electrical insulation which transmit signals from one region of the cerebrum to another and also between the cerebrum and the lower brain centers. White matter do not contain dendrites which are found only in the Greg matter along with neural cell bodies and shorter axons.
