Our grandmother found out you're taking a course on human evolution and asks, 'did we evolve from chimpanzees? How do you answer her?

A. No; chimpanzees are more closely related to orangutans than to humans.

B. It's complicated; we evolved from living apes but not specifically chimpanzees

C. No; while we are most closely related to chimpanzees, humans and chimpanzees evolved from a common ancestor and chimpanzees have also evolving (just as the human lineage has) since that split. Grandma, one living species did not evolve from another!

D. Scientists aren't sure; there is no evidence for similarities between humans and apes.

E. Yes; chimpanzees are living relics of our evolutionary history, and similarly, chimpanzees evolved from monkeys

Option B, It's complicated; we evolved from living apes but not specifically chimpanzees

    Explanation:

Humans resembles very closely with the Apes and thus it is believed that the closest ancestors to humans is ape. Humans have not originated from chimpanzees, gorillas or even apes. There are several controversies associated with the evolution of humans. There have been several geological time gaps during the evolution of humans. Also though humans have not evolved from the Apes, they share several primate characteristics with them.

    Hence, option B is correct
