    Garrod exanimated urine chemistry because he believed that it is reflection of systemic metabolism and disease. He wanted to understand disorders of metabolism such as alkaptonuria. By studying urine of mother that has disease and later her child's urine he made a conclusion that it is inherited (Mendelian pattern of inheritance).
