The more the bonds that connect the monomers (or the stronger the bonds), the harder the polythene plastic. The fewer the bonds the softer the plastic. The number of bonds is mainly dependent on the amount of branching of the monomers. The more the branching the fewer/weaker the bonds between the monomers.
