Respiration is the cellular process which converts glucose and oxygen into water and carbon dioxide with releasing an appropriate amount of energy.

Explanation: We eat food mainly to get energy. That energy is used for cellular metabolism like Cellular reproduction, Cell repairing, new cell formation and in cellular metabolisms. So our food is first converted into glucose and we also get oxygen from air (mechanical respiration). Hence that glucose and oxygen reacts together in a metabolism known as respiration producing water, carbon dioxide and energy. It occurs in mitochondria of cells.
