G0 phase is the phase of the cell cycle in which cell neither divides nor prepare to divide that is become quiescent. This phase is also known as the quiescent phase. The quiescence phase can be categorized into two types on the basis of function : reversible quiescence and irreversible quiescence.

The cells enter this phase due to the following reasons:

    1. The cells which mature and attain functions and do not wants to divide again like heart cells and nerve cells.

2 ... The cells like oocytes are arrested at the G0 phase which again becomes functional at puberty to form ova.
