    CITES stands for the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora is a treaty that exists for the protection fo endangered plants as well as animals. The main aim of this treaty is to make sure that the commercial trade of the various species of plants and animals at the international level does not compromise wit their survival and make them endangered. There are more than 35,000 species of plants and animals that are protected under CITES and all these species are subjected to control by CITES for their international trade. It is under the legislation of CITES only that certain species of parrots can not be sold as pets in the united states.
