Molecular beacons are defined as oligonucleotide hybridized probes that reports the presence of specific nucleic acids in a homogenous solutions.

Molecular Beacons have several advantages that is why DNA probe are labeled with molecular beacon. Molecular Beacons are structured probes which are highly sensitive. it act as a novel non-radioactive method which detect specific sequences of nucleic acids and are used for sequence detection in Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR).

Molecular Beacons are used in situations where it is either not desirable to isolate the targeted-probe hybrids from the hybridization probe.
