Plasma membrane is also known as cell membrane which protects every living cells from outside environments.

Plasma membrane composed of phospholipids bilayer embedded with highly charged molecules such as proteins and carbohydrates. Plasma membrane is selective in nature to ions (organic molecules) and regulates the movements of substances inside and outside of the cells. (regulates the transport of substances) Plasma membrane keeps out toxic substances from the cell acting as a barrier. They contain receptors and channels which allow specific molecules such as ion, nutrients, metabolic products, that mediate the extracellular and cellular activities.
