The CNS or the central nervous system monitors the majority of the activities of the body and mind. It comprises of two components, that is, the spinal cord and the brain.

The CNS comprises two types of tissues: grey matter and white matter. Grey matter that has a pinkish-grey color in the living brain comprises the dendrites, the cell bodies, and axon terminals of neurons. So, it is where all the synapses are present.

White matter, on the other hand, comprises of axons associating distinct components of grey matter with each other.
