Glycolysis occurs in all cells and can take place either with or without oxygen present .

Glycolysis occurs in the cytosol of the cell and it is the process where glucose is broken down by enzymes thus releasing energy and pyruvic acid.

This process requires an electron carrier molecule called NAD + which absorbs an electron.
