    DNA replication refers to the biological procedure of producing two similar copies of DNA from the original DNA. It comprises three stages, that is, initiation, elongation, and termination.

    The prokaryotic DNA comprises a single origin of replication, while the eukaryotic DNA comprises multiple origins of replication.

    In prokaryotes, replication of DNA takes place within the cytoplasm, while in eukaryotes the replication of DNA takes place within the nucleus.

    In prokaryotes DNA polymerase I initiate the replication in 5 prime to 3 prime direction, while in eukaryotes, DNA polymerase alpha initiates the replication in 5 prime to 3 prime direction. Thus, it is taking place in both eukaryotes and prokaryotes.

    In both prokaryotes and eukaryotes, DNA polymerase synthesizes the new strand of DNA.
