    Carbonate is a salt found in large quantities in nature. Among the places where it can be obtained are limestone, marble and also eggshell. Its main use is in the production of glass and cement. In addition, when attacked by acids, calcium carbonate releases carbon dioxide (carbon dioxide).

    The presence of carbonate in may influence effervescence in an acid-containing compound. The more carbonate, the more effervescent the reaction will be.
