Question asked:A mother has blood type A and her son has blood type O. Which blood types are possible for the father?

Answer:usually if one parent has one blood type that is different then their child like the mother having type A and then the child having type O. One parent probably passes a type O allele.

So the father more than likely has type O like the child

    A, B or O

    Explanation:

The ABO blood type is regulated by three alleles of gene "I". The genotype "ii" gives blood type "O". Since the son of the given parents have blood type "O" (genotype: ii), both parents should have one copy of "i" allele.

Hence, the possible genotype and respective phenotypes for the father are:

    1. IAi (A blood type)

    2. IBi (B blood type)

    3. ii (O blood type)
