Why might arctic species, like the polar bear, have large feet? (site 1)

    Imagine walking on snow or ice without snowshoes. Your skinny feet will go down into the snow, or they will, potentially, crack the ice.

    Polar bears have big paws so that their weight gets spread out over more space. Instead of sinking, they stay on top of whats around them.
