    Archaeopteryx is considered as an intermediate fossil between the dinosaurs and modern birds. With its amalgamation of reptilian and avian characteristics, it was long considered as the earliest known bird. It was found in 1860 in Germany, it is sometimes also called Urvogel, that is, the German term for first bird or original bird.
