    can a base pair be substituted with the same base pair?

    No, DNA base pair works in complimentary manner whereby a base pair can not be substituted for the same base pair e. g if one base is guanine then the complimentary strand is cytosine and if it is adenine the complimentary strand is thymine vice versa
