Penicillin is hydrolyzed and thereby rendered inactive by penicillinase (also known as b-lactamase), an enzyme present in some penicillin - resistant bacteria. the mass of this enzyme in staphylococcus aureus is 29.6 kd. the amount of penicillin hydrolyzed in 1 minute in a 10-ml solution containing 1029 g of purified penicillinase was measured as a function of the concentration of penicillin. assume that the concentration of penicillin does not change appreciably during the assay.

    The answer is 5.22 mM.

    Explanation:

    The calculation of Vmax and Km is as follows:

    y = 7.6225x + 1.4602

    so, when x = 0

    x = 1 : Vmax = 1.4602.

    Vmax = 1 : 1.4602 = 0.68.

    Thus, Vmax of the enzyme is 0.68.

    The calculation of (km) is as follows:

    Y = 7.6225X + 1.4602

    so, when y = 0

    x = 1 : Km = 5.22.

    5.22 mM.

    Explanation:

    using y=mx+c equation

    y = 7.6225x + 1.4602

    so, when x = 0

    x = 1 : Vmax = 1.4602.

    Vmax = 1 : 1.4602 = 0.68.

    Thus, Vmax is 0.68.

    Y = 7.6225X + 1.4602

    so, when y = 0

    x = 1 : Km = 5.22.
