I have 2 questions.

If ice is melting is energy applied or is it removed.

And at an atomic level what was happening to the atoms in the ice was it slowing down or speeding up

    1. If ice is melting, energy is applied. We need energy whenever we need to change the state either from solid to liquid or from liquid to gas. The energy is used to break the molecular force between the water molecules of the ice so that they can be farther apart and become liquid state.

    2. And at atomic level, the atoms are speeding up. Part of the energy is used to increase the kinetic energy of the ice particles, since the faster the particles are, the hotter an object will be. Therefore, since melting requires the ice to become a hotter substance, the particles are obviously moving faster.
