The anther is the male reproductive organ of a plant in which pollen (sperm) is produced.

The stigma is the tip of the female reproductive organ of a plant to which pollen of another individual plant of the same species will stick to, travel down the style, and into the ovule to be fertilized.

If the anther is located above the stigma, the pollen has a better chance of being distributed to other plants so it can reproduce.
