Clark Hull was an engineer and formulated his theory of behavior based on Pavlov's conditioning laws (conditioned reflexes). For Hull, the impulse was an internal force capable of motivating behavior. According to his theory, the impulse has to do with bodily needs, the deficit in the ideal conditions of the organism and the basis of motivation. His model was based on 2 different drives, the primary and secondary drives.
