Alcohol affects the pituitary gland by inhibiting the secretion of anti-diuretic hormone (ADH or vasopressin), which acts on the kidney to reabsorb water (H2O). As a consequence, ADH levels decrease, the kidneys do not reabsorb as much H2O, so more urine is produced and dehydration occurs.
