    The functions of the kidneys are:

    Regulate water, inorganic ion, and acid-base balance. Remove metabolic waste products from the blood and excrete them in the urine. Remove foreign chemicals from the blood and excrete them in the urine. Perform gluconeogenesis. Secrete hormones.
