You are running tests on a tissue and you find that the cells that compose it have a build up of amino acids and lipids that normally would have broken down and removed from the cell. What is the best explanation for this?

The mitochondria are dysfunctional and not breaking down cellular wastes?

The peroxisomes are dysfunctional and no breaking down cellular wastes.

The chloroplasts are dysfunctional and not breaking down cellular wastes.

The peroxisomes are dysfunctional and no breaking down cellular wastes.

    Explanation:

Peroxisomes are also called microbodies and contain several oxidases. Oxidases are the enzymes that oxidize organic substances such as amino acids, fatty acids, etc. Peroxisomes also oxidize toxic substances such as alcohol and hydrogen peroxide. If a cell has a build up of amino acids and lipids, peroxisomes of the cells might not be working to oxidize these organic molecules.
