    Soils are the major reservoir for the bacteria that causes Gas Gangrene.

    Explanation;

    -Gas gangrene usually caused by Clostridium perfringens, but can be from other Clostridia species. A normal inhabitant of soils (and found in most human intestinal microbes).

    -The anaerobe colonizes deep wounds and release extracellular protease enzymes, destroying tissues. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is sometimes useful.

    -Amino acids from tissue breakdown are used for energy in fermentation pathways. Fermentation gas products produces characteristic stench and bloating.
