    Explanation:

    Glycolysis is the first step of respiration and also the process for fermentation. It is a ancient form of respiration in cells before Krebs cycle. It has a net production of 2 ATPs and 2 NADH. Glycolysis produces pyruvate from glucose. If the pyruvate does not proceed to the Krebs cycle, it is converted to lactic acid which is a product of fermentation.
