    Both types of bone are targeted for erosion in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Although several pathological processes can lead to bone erosion, including malignancy, metabolic processes such as hyperparathyroidism, and chronic inflammatory diseases such as histiocytosis and sarcoidosis, the most common cause is RA.
