Roger Sperry was looking for a cure for epilepsy disease when researching differentiation of the left and right hemispheres of the brain. He performed experiment with live human subjects with the intention to find a surgical cure for the problem of epileptic seizures. He found that the seizures stopped when the corpus callosum (connecting the left and the right hemispheres of the brain) was cut. He then observed that the individuals show split personalities and increased capacity to store memories. This led to him proposing the differential role of the two hemispheres of the brain and the role of corpus callosum in acting as a bridge of communication between the left and the right of the brain.
