Maternal depression involves series of health conditions that can affect women during pregnancy and until after one year of child birth. Types of maternal depression include; postpartum psychosis, postpartum and prenatal depression. Maternal depression can be caused as a result of hormonal changes, trauma, heredity, and life stresses. Symptoms of depression are; sadness, consistent fatigue, irregular sleeping patterns and feelings of hopelessness.
