    Remember, DNA testing has been around for a relatively short time - it has only been used routinely in the last 20 years or so. Even in this short time, it has had a lot of success.

    That means that everyone analyzing a crime scene will be collecting samples to be DNA tested. This huge demand for the services (which is increasing every year) means there is a huge backlog of DNA samples that labs cannot keep up with.
