    Fluid lava (which is less viscous because it has less silica content) flows much further than viscous lava (that is high in silica content). Therefore, this types of lava forms shield volcanos - low slopes and low height - because they flow over longer distances before they cool. Viscous lava from composite volcanos that are high in height and have steep slopes.
