The surface temperature of Venus is higher than that of Mercury, even though Mercury is closer to the sun. What is the main reason for this difference in temperature?

    Venus is hotter than Mercury because it has a thicker atmosphere.

    Explanation:

    The heat the atmosphere traps is called the greenhouse effect. If Venus didn't have such thick atmosphere it would've been colder than mercury
