Select the correct answer.

Mandy, a leukemia patient, requires a stem cell transplant to treat her disease. Because the stem cells used for Mandy's treatment will be taken from another person, she will be required to take medications that weaken her immune system. These medications reduce the chances of Mandy's immune system attacking the foreign cells from the donor. Weakening a patient's immune system increases the patient's vulnerability to common illnesses. What could be done to avoid this scenario?

A.

Mandy's own stem cells could be used to treat her leukemia.

B.

Both stem cells and immune cells from the donor could be used to treat Mandy's leukemia.

C.

Mandy could be kept in isolation until her body recognizes the donor's stem cells as her own cells.

D.

Stem cells could be injected into one of Mandy's healthy organs before transferring them to her blood.

I'd say b because because if they mix together the system can't tell the difference?

    C. Mandy could be kept in isolation until her body recognizes the donor's stem cells as her own cells.

    Explanation:

The best thing that is done after stem cell transplant is that the patient is kept in isolation till the time the patient's body recognizes the donor's stem cells as her own cells. The isolated environment must be sterile i. e. it must be free of pathogens. By doing this, the patient will not get infected from any disease even if her immune system is weak due to intake/injection of immunosuppressive drugs. Meanwhile, her body starts recognizing the donor's stem cells which were initially foreign to her own cells.
