The laboratory is a place where a lot of hazardous chemicals are kept. Eating food and snacks, and drinking water inside laboratory is prohibited around the world. Every research building has some special designated break areas away from the laboratories where it is considered safe to eat food and drink water. The storage facilities like the laboratory refrigerator are kept at temperatures below zero degree Celsius to preserve precious and expensive enzymes (Taq pol, pfu pol, restriction enzymes, ligase, etc.). Storage of food in such refrigerators will not only contaminate these enzymes but will also spoil your food.
