    Mitosis is a type of cell division in which a single parent cell divides to give two daughter cell. Since, the chromosome number is equal in both the parent and daughter cell, this type of division is known as equational division. Somatic cells mainly undergoes the process of mitosis.

    Meiosis:

    Meiosis is a type of cell division in which a single parent cell divides to give four haploid daughter cells. Since, the chromosome number is half in daughter cells as compared with the parent cell, this type of division is known as reductional division. Germ cells mainly undergoes the process of meiosis.
