What happens during the experiment stage of the scientific method

The experiment part is when you actually test your hypothesis in a real example ... for example if your hypothesis is that coke will shoot 10 ft into the air after you drop a mentos in it, then your experiment would involve actually dropping the mentos into the soda to see how high it goes.
