This is a form of chemical bonding that involves of oppositely charged ions in an electronic way. It stands as one of the primary forms of bonding which also includes covalent and electrovalent bondings.

It can be said to be the complete transfer of valence electron amongst atoms. It is a chemical bond that generates two oppositely charged ions. In this bonding process, the metal loses electrons to become a positively charged cation, while the nonmetal accepts those electrons to become a negatively charged anion.
