Kanye, Taylor's lab partner decided to perform a standard plate count from a sample of E. coli. Understanding that the plates should have 30 - 300 colonies, Kanye decide to aim for exactly 100 colonies.

If the original sample contained 1 x 10^8 CFU/ml, what is the total dilution that would yield 100 colonies?

    Total dilution is 10^5 that would yield 100 colonies.

    Explanation:

    1 x 10^8 cfu/mL * 1/x = 100 colonies

    x = 10^6 cfu/ml

    So,

    1*106cfu/ml * 0.1 ml plated

    =10^5
