The nucleotides of DNA are bonded to each other through hydrogen bonding. The adenine and thymine form two hydrogen bonds between them. The cytosine and guanine form three hydrogen bonds. The hydrogen bonds allow the DNA strands to be held together and separated when needed for DNA replication and transcription.
