What evolutionary trend is observable in the relative sizes of the stages in the life cycles of plants, starting with green algae and ending with seed plants?

    From what I know if you look at how these plants have evolved then all plants have a life cycle that is categorized by altering generations and seed plants over time evolved reproductive cycles which did not necessarily require water
