Describe and explain the importance of a water potential gradient in the uptake of water by plants.

    The water potential in a plant regulates if the plant cell is either turgid or plasmolysed. If the environment has a higher water content than the plant, the plant would take in water through osmosis. If the cell has enough water, it becomes turgid. The cell walls avoids the bursting of plant cells.
