There are two main phase of photosynthesis:

    light dependent reaction

light independent reaction (also called dark reaction and Calvin cycle)

The 1st one takes place in thalakoid membrane. It occurs in the presence of light. The other one (dark reaction) takes place in the stroma of chloroplast.
