    polar bear populations are on the decline as ice thins because they are stranded further from land; they are being forced to swim longer distances and many are drowning on the way. This loss of sea ice also effects Alberto, or the reflectivity of the Earth’s surfaces. With less white areas of ice on the surface, the darker oceans are absorbing more heat.
