Mendel's Law of independent assortment states that alleles for specific traits are transmitted independently of one another. Meaning that the traits are passed to the offspring one by one and not as a whole. Due to genetic linkage, which shows the tendency of chromosomes near each other to be inherited together, there are many violations and exceptions to the Law of independent Assortment.
