Sweat glands excrete water and salt. The water absorbs heat from the body and as the water molecules evaporate away from the body, the water carries away the heat thus cooling the body. As the water leaves the sweat glands salt is carried along, but it does not evaporate, the salt stays on the surface of the skin.
