Explain the process of DNA replication and why is it important

    DNA replication is a semi-conservative process whereby two identical DNA molecules from a single double stranded molecule are produced. DNA replication commences at specific locations in the genome called "origins". DNA unwinds at the origin to form a replication fork. DNA polymerase enzyme then copies each strand to form a complementary strand from each. These new strands are then linked together after proof reading and editing to form a new DNA molecule. DNA replication is important because it is vital for the continuation of a species and allows an organism to reproduce its genetic code and pass it along to the next generation. Without DNA replication there wouldn't be reproduction which would signal end of a species.
