The Mesozoic Era is the name for the period of time that began about 252 million years ago and ended about 66 million years ago. This Era is also called from a paleobotanist view the Age of Conifers. The dominant land plant species of the time were gymnosperms, which are vascular, cone-bearing, non-flowering plants such as conifers that produce seeds without a coating.
